BloomMasters First Edition 2017: Social Entrepreneurship Track

Description

The aim of this project is to ensure accessibility of deaf people to mobile technology era using sign language and to allow them to communicate with hearing persons thanks to the automatic translation between spoken and signed languages. The project consists mainly on automatic conversion of text messages into multimedia messages that embeds a dynamic animated translation of the original textual message into sign language. This software can be used as a kernel for more varied deaf-accessibility tools. We already developed an announcement service for deaf as a first tool prototype. It can be used to broadcast information and news in public areas such as airports, stations and administrations. We developed a second prototype that converts automatically SMS into MMS containing a video animation of a 3D avatar. The MMS represents the translation of the SMS in sign language. The developed innovative tools in the way that they really tap the needs of deaf community in the world. The developed tools are based on a deep and high level scientific investigation and have resulted into international scientific contributions as well as awards. We focused on providing usable tools for the deaf community where no functional tools have been proposed before. Moreover, we have two patents in the Tunisian office of standardization and industrial property.
